Integration of two Specialty Modules In One: Al Baha Experience

Background

Introduction:

New medical schools have many challenges; of these are the manpower and spaces to meet the administrative and educational needs. Therefore, the design and conduction of the educational program have to undergo a significant adaptation.

Summary of Work

Objective: 

To develop and evaluate an Integrated teaching Module that covers the core curriculum for Ophthalmology and ENT for undergraduate Medical Students.

Design & Development:

The theories of education and instructional design were reviewed and used to integrate the modules. Several curricula of ENT and Ophthalmology at Saudi Arabia and internationally were reviewed to develop the material.

Evaluation Process:

7 Items questionnaire on content evaluation by subject matter experts, 7 items questionnaire on educational design evaluation by educationalists, and  8 items questionnaire for student evaluation.

 

Summary of Results

Subject matter experts' response was 2 out of 2 (100 %). Educationalists' response was 3 out of 3 (100 %). Students feedback was obtained from 19 out of 29 (65.5%).( table 1)All the experts and educationalist agreed that the educational approach and scientific content were adequate 5/5 (100).

Conclusion
