Title

Use of the e-portfolio to investigate the culture of Educational and Clinical supervision in Local Education Providers, Departments and amongst Individuals.

Background

The East Midlands Foundation Schools have asked the question: Can the Foundation Programme trainee E-portfolio provide reliable benchmarking data for quality indicators of clinical and educational supervision?

Summary of Work

An audit of all Clinical and Educational supervisor reports for 495 FY1 trainees completing their 1st placement was undertaken. The criteria used were:

 

 

Conclusion

Data from individual Educational and Clinical supervisor reports can be used to look at the ethos of supervision in a Local Education Provider (LEP), at the educational culture within a specialty in an LEP and at the quality of supervision provided by an individual.

Take-home Messages

Quality of Educational and Clinical supervisor reports in the e-portfolio should not be overlooked in quality management of individuals, departments or organisations.

Summary of Results

 

The quality of Educational supervisor reports shows variation across the region, which is supported by other quality markers in the Educational Environment.

 

 

 

 

The quality of Clinical Supervisor reports is dependent on the Local Education Provider (LEP) and parent specialty as well as the individual trainer.
